BECOME A VOLUNTEER FOR 2013

Remember our club functions with the assistance of a large core of volunteers. Never hesitate to step forward to help out and bring enjoyment to our players. Without volunteers our club would not be able to offer sports to the youth. See VOLUNTEERS.

Welcome to West Hamilton Youth Soccer

Established in 1970, West Hamilton Youth Soccer Club is a summer institution for hundreds of families who live in West Hamilton and the surrounding communities including Westdale, Ainslie Woods, Dundas, Ancaster, Stoney Creek, East Hamilton, and Flamborough. West Hamilton Youth Soccer Club offers an outdoor House League for boys and girls 4 years old and up, as well as a range of Competitive teams. With the support of hundreds of volunteers, WHYSC provides the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of the game, develop individual skills, strong teamwork and respect.

WHYS House League play is recreational and non-competitive. Children join for their enjoyment: to play, to learn the game, to have fun and to make friends. EQUAL PLAYING TIME is mandatory in all House League play.

Playing the Game

We ask that parents and players familiarize themselves with the rules and policies of the West Hamilton Youth Soccer Club. If you have any questions, the sidebar at the left provides a number of resources on soccer at WHYS.

Respect for all game officials (referees, convenors, coaches) and players is mandatory.

Remember our club is a recreation, 'for fun', club and as such we appreciate it when everyone to encourages all players on the field. If you are interested in coaching or assisting, please complete the necessary application and submit it to the club. If you are not interested, please allow those that are, to complete the task. If you have an issue, speak to the Division Convenor (see About Us) instead of confronting the coach at the field. Similarly, issues with referees should be addressed to the Referee Coordinator at refcoord@westhamiltonsoccer.com.

Please ensure your player has all necessary equipment for their practice/game. This includes the full uniform (for games), shin pads and a liquid to keep hydrated. Shin pads are mandatory for protection and safety and are not included with registration price. Please ensure you remove anything you bring to the field.

Play Together Requests

The West Hamilton Youth Soccer Club will no longer consider play together requests under normal circumstances. Attempting to accommodate player requests resulted in unbalanced teams leading to a less enjoyable experience for all participants. West Hamilton Youth Soccer Club thanks you for your understanding and support as we look forward to an exciting and enjoyable season.

OSA Long Term Player Development

The philosophy of LTPD is very simple and practical: for the recreational player, we not only want them to develop basic physical literacy and be fit, but also receive excellent instruction and have fun. By giving them a strong foundation players are more likely to stay in the sport, if they so choose, hopefully for life. For the player with the desire and or talent who wants more, LTPD creates more time on the ball, advanced coaching approaches, great training, challenge. LTPD is mandated by the Canadian Soccer Association. Like other Ontario clubs, we will be phasing in LTPD, starting with pilot projects in 2012 and initial implementation at the early ages in 2013. This will be phased in over a 6-8 year period.

Play Up Requests

To be consistent with the OSA Long Term Player Development policy, West Hamilton Youth Soccer Club requires players to play in the division according to their year of birth. Play up requests will not be granted for players in U12 or under. Players above U6 who are seeking a higher level of play are encouraged to join a House League All Star team or try-out for a competitive team.

Do We Play in the Rain?

Yes, we play in the rain. Play is only cancelled in case of thunder or lightning. This decision will be made at the field by a WHYS official (coach, convenor, referee). Parents will be not be called in advance of practices or games, so please plan on coming to the fields when it is raining. In addition to thunder storms, practices or games may be cancelled or moved to a new location if the field is closed according to the City of Hamilton Rain Out Policy.

Tobacco-Free Sport and Recreation

West Hamilton soccer is strongly committed to healthy living through Tabocco-Free sport. Starting May 31, 2012 a new Hamilton by-law will ban smoking on all city-owned or operated property used for recreation purposes. Some of the areas included are parks, playgrounds, recreation centre property, arena and stadium property, sports or playing fields, skateboard parks, beaches, outdoor pools and leash-free dog parks. While there is no smoking on any school property (Dalewood and Westdale High, as per existing Hamilton by-laws), we will additionally expect our members to follow the new Hamilton by-lay and not smoke at Churchill or Kay Drage fields.
